Other Info Madeline Koeman was the only daughter of a small but happy merchant family on the far side of Rhoda. Unfortunately that happiness was not long lasting as the Koeman home was attacked by pirates looking for easy score. Madeline watched as her parents were killed and attempted to flee from the massacre. However, the house was surrounded and she never had a real chance of escape. The young girl was tormented for a short while as the remaining supplies were scavenged. With their task and fun completed, the pirates quickly slit Madeline’s throat and left her to die as she watched her home and the bodies of her parents burn away as she bled out. It was considered a miracle, by the people who arrived on the scene shortly after, that Madeline survived such a wound thanks to the help of some quick medical work. Of course her survival came at the cost of her own voice as her vocal cords were badly damaged. Some even argue that it also came at the cost of the girl’s own sanity. Fire became a real obsession in Madeline’s life afterwards and went out of her way to play with it. It was only a matter of time until she graduated to arson and took an interest in black powdered weaponry. Of course any cases of arson couldn’t be pinned on Madeline due to lack of proof, but the people just knew that she was involved. Her reckless attitude and acts of arson is what earned her the nickname of “Mad Maddy”. The thing that Madeline hates the most is the level of difficulty it takes to communicate. Being a mute has left her with limited options. A quill with paper and ink is often preferable but can be troublesome to travel with, especially when Maddy has a tendency to burn the paper and quill out of boredom. This often leaves her primary forms of communication being either pantomiming or mouthing simple words slowly enough for people to read her lips. Of course this can lead to misinterpretations which infuriate Madeline to no end as she is simply trying to communicate Maddy has formed a complex with her muteness over the years as she misses hearing the sound of her own voice and has developed a slight jealousy over those who still can speak, especially with those considered to have beautiful voices. The interest in black powdered weapons such as grenadoes and flintlocks are simply a means for Madeline to compensate for her stolen voice as she is determined to be heard one way or another. This is often the reason why she has such an interest in loud weaponry. The bigger the boom means the bigger Madeline's interest in it is.
